PRACTICUM STUDENT Jesse Junck

My name is Jesse, and I’m thrilled to be offering services as an intern clinical counsellor for children, youth, and adults. My approach is grounded in the belief that each person possesses inherent strengths and inner wisdom and accessing these aspects fosters both personal growth and well-being.

In my counselling practice, I combine the principles of several therapeutic theories. Emotion-focused therapy informs deep exploration of feelings, facilitating emotional healing. Narrative therapy guides us in rewriting empowering life stories. The response-based approach underscores resilience amidst challenges, while cognitive behavioural therapy offers practical tools for positive change.

Beyond my counselling aspirations, having spent a decade teaching elementary school and eight years living abroad in Asia and Latin America, have filled me with an appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives.

As I transition to the role of an intern clinical counsellor, I bring a diverse background and a commitment to your well-being. I’m eager to join you on your journey toward self-discovery, growth, and a more balanced life.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC# 23309) and also a teacher counsellor currently working in the Sooke School District. I work with children, youth and adults to manage anxiety, depression, grief and loss and other life challenges. Having worked for over 10 years in elementary and middle schools in Canada and abroad, I have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by school aged children, both in and out of the school environment and enjoy working with this age group. I am also passionate about offering parenting support that encourages parents to feel confident in their role as a parent leader while maintaining and developing strong, connected relationships with their child.

My therapeutic approach is informed by Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I love to work with multiple modalities whenever possible and I find integrating expressive art, games, and play therapy techniques to be especially helpful to create an engaging and supportive therapeutic experience.

I believe that we all have the capacity for personal growth and healing. When life becomes more complicated, we sometimes need a caring, nonjudgmental presence to listen, help us shift perspectives and remind us of personal strengths. My goal as a counsellor is to help you discover the strengths and resources that you already have so that you can lean into experiences of all emotions while holding to core values and leading a more fulfilling life.

I am an indisputable nerd with a passion for knowledge, so outside of work and school, I can often be found reading or researching topics of interest. However, I also have a soft spot for fantasy novels, enjoy exercise as well as traveling and spending time with family.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Victoria, BC (BCACC #11659). I work with children, youth, adults, and families. I use a strength-based approach, and draw on the theories of emotion-focused, narrative, response-based, and cognitive behavioural therapy in my work. I also specialize in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a evidence-based and highly effective therapy approach for the treatment of trauma and many other mental health challenges. Another modality I use in the resolution of trauma symptoms is Lifespan Integration Therapy. I also employ arts-based approaches, incorporating music and visual arts, especially when working with children and youth. I believe that human beings are resilient and have the capacity to change. It is through life’s challenges that we grow and become stronger, more integrated individuals. As Rumi wrote: “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

Counselling can help in times of challenge or crisis by offering a space to be heard without judgment, to explore solutions, and to expand perspectives on healing and wellness. Essential to my practice is the belief that you as the client are the expert on your life and experience. As a counsellor I aim to help you on your journey toward achieving your goals.
